Situated in the sought-after Cornish village of Rock (where Coast Creative director Nick was born and raised), Stable Cottage is a three-story home with a southerly aspect and a light and airy coastal interior inspired by the views out over the moorings on the Camel Estuary.

“Visitors obviously love the views but also love the feel of the house indoors – the rooms are all different and have a nice mix of light rooms with vaulted ceilings and cosier rooms such as the Snug and the Games room.”

In the spring of 2024 Coast Creative were commissioned by owners Cathy and Andrew and their architects to craft the interior joinery of the property. Based on an initial concept and brief from the architects, Design Director Luke worked with Cathy and Andrew to refine the concept to perfectly fit the way that they would live in and use their home.

We designed, made and installed wardrobes in the bedrooms, a built-in entranceway coat and shoe storage cupboard, a built-in desk to transform a smaller room on the top floor into a highly functional home office, and panelling and various pocket doors throughout. The pocket doors recover functional space from rooms as they slide back into the wall, or in the case of the middle floor they can divide or seamlessly open up living space to create a feeling of openness and flow.

“Our favourite part of the house is the middle floor which can either be a giant open space with great light and great views, or transform on a rainy Tuesday night in November into a cosy den to hunker down in from the rain and wind! The sliding pocket doors really enable that transformation.”

Each element of built-in storage throughout Stable Cottage was designed with the available space and intended use of the room at the forefront of consideration. We created multi-storage wardrobes complete with custom-made metal fittings and features such as shoe-drawers, through to inbuilt internal lighting to make seeing and selecting an outfit easier on dark winter mornings.

“We love the storage as it is the perfect combination of practical and beautiful – wardrobes hidden away in alcoves to make the most of the space, with lighting and sockets incorporated, and the external look fully complements the feel of the room.”

With the normalisation of working from home and hybrid work arrangements over the last few years, home offices and work-from-home spaces have become not only increasingly important but more considered. If you are going to have to spend a working day alone in a space, and be at your best and most productive, then feeling comfortable and enjoying your immediate environment is hugely important.

“The study was a space we managed to carve out from the master bedroom quite late in the process. We have created a room with phenomenal Wi-Fi reception, great lighting and excellent storage and all the office amenities to make a home office space work smoothly. Most of all it is beautiful with a large waney edge oak desk top and practical cupboards that hide away a printer and files and it quickly became a room one loved to be in!”

Your home should be an extension of you and a reflection of your personal tastes and how you wish to live your life. At Stable Cottage, Andy and Cathy have created a house in which they feel at home. Achieving that for clients is a fulfilling goal for us here at Coast Creative.
