Overlooking the wild Atlantic Ocean is Keynvor, a low-carbon sustainably-minded property designed by architects ARCO2. Following Passivhaus principles, Keynvor prioritises insulation, ventilation and energy efficiency, built to such a high standard that the house can maintain an almost constant temperature without the need for heating or cooling.

Designed for reverse level living, the communal areas and kitchen are found on the first floor, flooded with natural light from the floor to ceiling windows that overlook Mawgan Porth and the ocean. Adopting elements of Scandinavian living, the wooden features coupled with the amount of natural light and open-plan design has a calming effect on anyone who enters. Bringing the outside in is proven to have a positive impact on mental health and mood, whilst open plan living encourages community and conversation. 

Connecting the levels is a laminate oak staircase with a bespoke, solid oak hand rail built by Coast Creative. One side of the staircase is a contemporary oak slatted divider, which allows for privacy whilst still filtering natural light through the different sections of the house. 

The sleek and modern kitchen follows the Golden Triangle rule, ensuring flow and maximising efficiency. Finished in Egger perfect sense matt black, and brightened by the west-facing window, the open-plan living area and kitchen melt into one another. 

The waterfall-ended kitchen island in “Rugged Concrete” Ceaser stone sits centre stage, with space for bar stools to slide discreetly beneath. The island also houses hidden under-counter storage, a built-in sink and an induction hob. Open floating shelving is mounted on the wall, with space maximising storage below the worktop. 

On the other wall we built bespoke, full length vertical cabinets, with custom steel handles, that hide an integrated fridge and cupboards, plus surround the wall-mounted oven. We designed and built a unique walk-in hidden pantry (with a large soft-close door) for optimal storage, which also includes a small drinks fridge and built-in wine rack.
